Vin de Napkin - Slice of Vice

There is a reason why having a hunk of bloody rare red meat, a Manhattan and a cigar holds a tantalizing allure for many a man—it’s because it’s legal, but practically verboten in a world gone safe like the blunted edge of a set of safety scissors.

It’s living on the edge ... without having to go to the trouble of doing anything illegal.  Let’s face it—nothing fun is really, theoretically, good for you.  Except wine.  Wine seems to be good for you ...

... and, that’s the problem ...  I really don’t want to see any more research reports about how wine is so ... so ..., well, darn healthy.  It’s kind of a buzzkill.  Yeah, I know, of course, wine is a drink of moderation.  I’ve got that.  Still, wine would be infinitely more interesting if it were considered more of a vice instead of mainstream health tonic enjoyed by “Ladies Who Lunch” after their pilates class.

For that reason, I was glad to see this recent report with the headline, “Red Wine Could be Bad for You, Says New Research.”

Just saying ... sometimes being bad, is good ...

Too many ‘wine is healthy’-stories? Don’t complain if you have it that good! I wish I could live in a place where positive articles about wine were the norm.

Over here in Blighty the standard alcohol-related newspaper or television piece is a re-cycled press-release from some neo-prohibitionist organisation trying to tell us the entire country will die tomorrow unless we renounce alcohol instantly and forever. Such reporting is generally very lazy; the neo-pros are quoted parrot-fashion even when their press releases are a tissue of bogus statistics and and unfounded conclusions. It irks me no end that we have to put up with this lackadaisical reporting of non-stories which are really just attempts by the meddlers to justify their existences.

More ‘wine is marvellous’ news items for the UK, please. I’ll never complain about them.

So, first off I would love to compliment you on the most beautiful template I have almost ever seen!

Ok, now that I got that out of the way…..

I love to see all the crazy one liners about wine and health these days. Seems like every day there is some new and amazing evidence that it’s either good or bad.

Here’s a hint: If it makes you happy then it’s good for you. In moderation of course!

Cheers!

The fashion industry has long been one of the largest employers in the United States, and it remains so in the 21st century. However, employment declined considerably as production increasingly moved overseas, especially to China. Because data on the fashion industry typically are reported for national economies and expressed in terms of the industry’s many separate sectors, aggregate figures for world production of textiles and clothing are difficult to obtain.

Funny thing is that wine may be good for some people and not for others. Wine certainly can be really high in anti-oxidants. Fermented liquids and foods typically carry solid health benefits.

But there are always studies coming out saying one day something is good for you, and the next it is not. It really depends on the person they are studying, that is why reports are like that.

Excellent post and blog.

Thanks
Dr. Ed….
